This months orchid in the picture: Psychopsis papilio
Psychopsis is a genus of 5 and Psychosis papilio is the best known. Nicknamed the "butterfly orchid". It grows epiphyticaly on trees in the tropical rainforests of northern South America, central America and on islands of the Caribbean. It is said that this orchid triggered the orchid mania back in the 19th century. Psychosis papilio is best grown in bright light with temperatures between 18° and 24°C. Water once a week but make sure the roots dry out in between waterings. Every leave can produce a new flower stalk that can grow up to 1,2 meter. In succession a single flower opens at the top and stays for 4 weeks. Psychopsis papilio is a must have for every orchid collector and truly a show off plant once it is blooming.
